Regulator Circuit Using Zener Diode

Reverse bias breakdown of p-n junction
When voltage is increased on a reverse biased diode, the reverse current due to minority carries increases very slowly. At the certain voltage reverse current increases abrubptly to the maximum value. The reverse volate at which reverse current reaches to maximum value is called reverse breakdown voltage . Care is taken that the heavy reverse current does not damage the crystal permanently and return to original condition when reverse voltage is removed. Such breakdown happens in two ways:
